1. What are the characteristics of Blogs?
Blogs are personalized, public space where anyone anywhere can post pictures, thoughts, comments and pretty much anything that they feel should be shared in the world. Blogs usually have a text box with a few "editing/personalizing" buttons to add some creativity and excitement to the text. Blogs have simple URLs, and it makes it easier to remember and share among friends, family and people that share common interests with you.
2. What are they useful for?
Blogs are very useful because they make it easy to share, and expression opinions and facts. Blogs can be used for discussions and communication. Some people may also like expressing opinions and sharing them to a large mass of people, and which blogs easily allow.
3. How are blog posts a distinctive type of writing?
Blog writing is the hazy grey between black (texting slang) and white (essay/professional). The sentences also do not have to be cohesive. There is no restriction on writing, whereas texting has a limited number of characters, and english papers require much though and detail, with multiple revisions, whereas a blog is just an extension of the mind of the author. The grey area of blog writing is what gives the author creativity and freedom
4. How might blogging be an effective extension of learning in the classroom?
Blogging can be an extension of the classroom, because we are able to discuss what went on in class, how we felt about something, our reactions, questions, all of which we can receive feedback from our peers.
